60-Year-Old Woman Lost 45 Kg of Weight with 7 Steps

There are many challenges experienced when we are determined to lose weight

The spirit of dieting and exercising did feel burning at the beginning, but over time it began to fade and the dream of getting the ideal weight failed.

However, this does not apply to a woman named Rhonda Lokken (60) who lives in Bemidji, Minnesota, United States. She recently revealed a success story of losing weight up to 45 kilograms after experiencing a number of health problems.

Before she lost weight, Rhonda, who was 172 centimeters tall, had a body mass index that was categorized as severely obese.

Rhonda admitted that she had been overweight since she was five years old and because of that condition, she was bullied by boys while playing.

Her overweight automatically affected her health and in 2000 she was convicted of type 2 diabetes. Doctors had said that Rhonda would never be able to lower insulin.

This made Rhonda spend most of her life weighing more than 136 kilograms. When she was pregnant with twins, she gained weight even more and she immediately consulted a doctor to deal with it.

Rhonda also had severe sleep apnea and she had to start using a CPAP machine.

He has high blood pressure, is difficult to move, gets tired easily, and loses self-confidence. "My mom had to order a fat size from the catalog because I live in a small town in southeast Alaska and that's the only way I can get clothes." "It's always embarrassing," Rhonda said.

How Rhonda loses weight

Rhonda then tried many ways to lose weight such as diets, very strict calorie counting to keto diets.

Unfortunately none of the ways it does work in the long run. "We're just treated differently when we're obese," Rhonda recalled.

"People see and judge us. They see weight as a defect of character," he said.

"I always think people don't take me seriously like they take other people with normal weight."

She then planned to lose weight by changing her mindset.

Things started to change when she moved from Seattle to Bemidji in 2017 and Rhonda saw a doctor who could help her improve her health. Rhonda said in 2020, she began meeting with Sue Diaz, a nutrition specialist at Sanford Health who also has type 2 diabetes.

At that time Rhonda's body had a lot of insulin and could certainly complicate weight loss. For this reason, Diaz recommends alternative medicine approved by his doctor.

Here are seven steps in the lifestyle changes that Rhonda then carried out:

1. Only eat when she is hungry

Rhonda as if "listening" and paying great attention to what the body tells her. "Am I really hungry or just stressed, angry, or happy?" said Rhonda. Before making this step, Rhonda often felt emotions that provoked her to devour all the food.

2. Eliminate added sugar

Diaz through his advice asks patients to peg a dose about sweet foods or liquids in the food. "If someone drinks five cans of sweets a day, maybe make a target to drink three cans and see how it goes."

3. Made certain changes

Rhonda was on a vegetarian diet for a year and now she can already eat meat. Before he avoided eating fast food and did not drink alcohol.

4. Eating smaller portions

Diaz said a large portion in one meal could be equivalent to three meals a day.

Therefore, limit portions in one meal normally.

5. Pay attention to the size

Of the portion To measure the portion of the meal so that it is not excessive, you should use a measuring cup to find out the right size.

Another way is to measure portions of the meal with a closed fist that is approximately a cup of food. Like a thumb roughly the equivalent of a tablespoon, a tennis ball the size of a serving of fruit, and a computer mouse the size of a surrounded vegetable.

6. Exercise

Rhonda started going to the gym in 2019 and started working out with a personal trainer. That routine still continues to this day.

"If I want chocolate, I will eat chocolate." "I'll try to have it in smaller portions and then I'll keep the rest where I can't see it," Rhonda said. "I don't want to ever feel deprived.

If I really want (food), then that's a problem for me," Rhonda added. Rhonda said she still loves sweets. But he was careful and only ate a little candy if he wanted to.

7. Lifestyle

The key to success Rhonda loses weight drastically is to change her mindset. "I really changed my mindset.

I never mentioned what I was doing on a diet," Rhonda said. Instead, he regarded it as a lifelong way of eating that didn't have to be done consistently.

Rhonda says most people do want quick weight loss

But Rhonda chose to do it slowly and gradually a way to change her lifestyle.

After about 3.5 years of living this routine, Rhonda has lost more than 45 kilograms and now her weight is 88 kilograms.

Rhonda now has absolutely no insulin problems and her diabetes is under control. He no longer had to use a CPAP machine when sleeping and his dress size changed from 24 to 12.

Even with a "pede" she recently bought her first swimsuit after all these years. "This whole journey isn't just about losing weight for me," Rhonda said. "It's about being the best version of me and focusing on my health," she said.
